What our customers say about their holidays
Mrs Strickland - Verified booking
The property is fantastic and really well appointed. There was an oven glove missing, but a quick trip to Morrisons solved that. Great location, about 10 mins from Alnwick and only a few minutes from a number of beaches. The property was immaculate on the inside, but sadly previous guest(s) had clearly let their dog use the entire garden as a toilet, and I used 6 bags cleaning up after a dog which wasn't even ours. I don't think it should fall to staff to clean up, which is why I haven't marked it down, but it was definitely the dirtiest garden I've stayed in by far. We would certainly come back to this property, however we will not be booking through Original Cottages due to really poor service after we had left. We left 8am Saturday, and after we got home, we realised we must have left our spare car key fob behind in one of the kitchen drawers. As our car is keyless, you're support to report it to the police, however we knew the cleaners would (or should) still be there. I contacted Original Cottages and explained the situation. Was advised that they would contact the cleaning agency and call me back. No-one phoned and when I called back, I was told by another member of staff that my details had not been passed on and the cleaners would have left by now. They advised that they had forwarded my details on and assured me that someone would call me back, porbably the day after. No-one phoned, and we really needed to know whether or not we could get our keys back. I called again, was told that it wasn't possible to check the property until the end of next week. I explained why it was urgent and that this completely went against what i had been told by two other members of staff. The lady I spoke to said she would make a note and flag it up as urgent as that someone would be in touch within a couple of days - I'm still waiting. Obviously the fact we left the keys was completely our fault, but the way Original Cottages have handled this has been poor to say the least. All it would have taken would have been to contact the cleaning agency whilst they were presumably still at the property, pass on our details so we could arrange for them to be returned. I highly recommend the property, but not the company

Having used John bray for approximately 15yrs we were extremely disappointed with this property.
The bedrooms all smelt of dog urine and were musty..our miniature Jack Russell (bitch) is fully house trained and although we travel with a dog this is the first time staying in a dog friendly cottage that smelt of urine in the bedrooms where dogs are supposedly not allowed . Tired dirty carpets old furniture no headboard on master bed and single beds in front bedroom . Weâve come to expect a far higher standard than this with John bray. The iron also had to be reported on arrival as it was it such a terrible state (looked like a safety hazard) which was replaced promptly. For once we were grateful to leave the property at the end of our stay. The living area was the only saving Grace. We most definitely would not return! Extremely disappointedâ¦I also have photos of the disgusting state of the duvet in the other main bedroom which is fit for one thing â¦the bin.. it had multiple large questionable stains on it .. we had to use another duvet⦠however under no circumstances should that particular duvet have been there for people to use⦠utterly disgraceful and a hugely disappointing stay⦠this property needs serious attention in the bedrooms. Iâd be interested to hear your response to these issues.

Overall a nice cottage that would get 4 stars if it were not for the storage heating system.
We arrived to a freezing cold cottage with storage heaters that had no heat at all apart from the one in the main sitting room, which was struggling to cope. It was telling that there were two electric heaters, a quick phone call for help to the office and the maintenance guy arrived to advise us on how to use them and deliver another heater. If you donât want to boil at 2 in the morning make sure you adjust them before you go to bed. The rooms were either cold or too hot for the whole stay which made it a less relaxing than it might have been otherwise because the sitting room is nicely furnished. The kitchen was also cold as there is no heating close enough to make an impact on a cold Feb morning. The beds were comfortable and the upstairs bathroom was nice, but the downstairs shower room was freezing again so only used it when really needed. Only odd things were the square dinner plates that were too big for the dishwasher and the washing up bowl was too big for the sink so a bit of a faff to wash up. Otherwise the kitchen seemed well kitted out. The outside space looked nice but we didnât use it being February.

Great bungalow slightly let down by dated and cramped second bathroom compared to master en-suite which was lovely.
Great to see kitchen had been refitted after our last visit 2 years ago and the new kitchen is a big improvement particularly as itâs the first impression you have when you enter the property. Lots of windows. Light and spacious. Very pretty garden. Not overlooked. Two points to note: 1. Central Heating - because of slightly chilly weather, it would have been nice for the CH to be operating AM and PM but there were no instructions provided on how to operate the system or any information about the system being pre-set by the owner so, we presume, it was unchangeable. We therefore had to resort to using the individual plug in electric heaters provided which seemed a waste of energy. The fact these are provided indicates the air source heating is not up to the job! 2. There were no instructions for the microwave which was not obvious how to operate surprisingly. Suggest these are provided to help other guests.

Lerryn is so well located for local amenities as well as a great base for exploring this stunning area of Cornwall.
The property was plenty spacious enough for two families and the living quarters/kitchen diner really is lovely and generous. Saying all that, there are a few recommendations for improvement. The bedrooms do smell damp, the shower in the utility didnât work and dripped all week, the BBQ grill was filthy on arrival and the BBQ in general is on its last legs. For two families the fridge/freezer could be twice the size but we coped. The main inconvenience however was the fact that no linen is provided. Despite Sykes Customer Services strangely telling me bath mats were included there was actually nothing; we ended up using our only self-provided hand towel as a bath mat! Lastly, clarity on recycling would be welcomed as the kitchen notice board and bins all stated different collection days. All in all a great property with so much potential, just needs a bit of TLC and the finishing touches.
