What our customers say about their holidays

The property is spacious, away from the road and well-positioned for Rock and the surrounding area.
The house was very well-equipped: books, games, jigsaws, every kitchen utensil you could imagine. It was great to have more than the bare minimum of plates, bowls, mugs etc so that the dishwasher could be run efficiently. There was plenty of cupboard space both in the kitchen and bedrooms. The showers were wonderful: so powerful and the water was hot! The whole house was very warm, which suited us! The house is very light, airy and tastefully decorated. It felt very homely. The back garden has wonderful open views across the countryside. There was parking for two vehicles very close to the house, even though we only used one space. It would be helpful to let visitors know that the cottage is located behind Lundy House and that the bins seem to be emptied on a Thursday. The property would benefit from a thorough maintenance check and deep cleaning more often between guests checking out and new ones arriving. Our experience was the kitchen in particular needed worktop surfaces degreasing; the microwave and oven / hob needed cleaning properly before we could use them; the kettle handle was sticky; plates / cutlery had been put away not properly clean; the dishwasher had runner wheels lying in the bottom so every time the top rack was pulled out, it fell off (which we think we have now fixed); there was no salt nor rinse aid in the dishwasher, so we had to purchase both; a number of the kitchen cabinet doors didnât shut properly. Elsewhere in the house the toilet roll holder in the downstairs toilet is nearly falling off the wall. We had to buy toilet rolls as there were no spares and two were right at their end when we arrived. One usb wall socket charger in the main bedroom doesnât work. As other people have said the sofas are not very comfortable. We had to pick up three lots of dog poo in the back garden when we arrived. The grass was very long and hadnât been cut for some time. It was only cut on Thursday. All of these things added up to the house appearing to not be cared for, even though it is a lovely property in a fantastic place. Fortunately these things didnât stop us having a good holiday.

We were extremely disappointed with this property.
The price for the week was on offer so we paid nearly half price plus additional fee for two dogs, if we'd paid the full price I would be asking for a refund. It is a spacious and light property, downstairs is comfortable and having an enclosed garden with dogs is a real bonus. However, it was not very clean, the downstairs windows were cloudy inside the double glazing and the windowsills covered in dirt. The plastic cover on the dining table was sticky and curled up at the edges. Although big enough to seat 5 or more you can't get the chairs around it as it is pushed into the corner and very close to the sofa. The cutlery is very cheap and nasty and one cupboard had a load of out of date food in it. The freezer drawers were dirty. The cupboard under the stairs was a mess. The bedrooms were all very nice, comfortable beds and nice furniture. The carpet however was a hard scratchy material and there are a number of stains on it. It was not nice to walk on with bare feet. The main bathroom was large and towels provided were lovely. There needs to be a warning about the shower, it has a very high step up into it and nothing to hold onto when getting out, this would definitely not be easy for someone with mobility issues or an elderly person, I am not surprised there are no photos of the shower as it has a lot of black mould around the door and bottom of tiles. The shower in the top bedroom is over a bath so not able to use this as an alternative. The bedroom balcony is not lovely as described, it has two dirty tatty garden chairs on it and the decking is dirty. The cottage is well positioned, near shops and a short walk to the beach. It is in a quiet area and has nice lawns to the front.

We stayed here end September for a few day on a last minute break and were really pleased to have found Longhouse Bungalow.
The bungalow is lovely and spacious with comfy sofas and nice and warm. The kitchen is really well equipped for cooking. However, there is nothing provided at all, so pack salt and pepper, oil and condiments. The showers are very good and refreshing after a long day out, please note shower units not bath/showers. The bedding and towels are good quality. I found the mattress in the front double bedroom to be fabulous, but my husband didn't. Mattresses are a personal things I suppose. The bungalow is located down a short lane, the garden is great for star gazing, there is a field further down the lane too which we went to, to see the stars. The only improvement I would suggest is to address the damp/musty smell, which we thought might be from the carpet. Other visitors have noted this too. It wouldn't put me off staying here again though. I can see why people return to the bungalow, its a great property in a great location. We ate locally at the Pityme Inn pub and also at the Cracking Crab in Polzeath. The closest supermarket is at Wadebridge, locally there is a bakery, butcher and general store. A fish and chip shop at the end of the lane. From Rock there is a foot ferry service across to Padstow for £3 per person. Takes 4 minutes to cross. There are great walks around the area which we did a few of. There are two helpful books at the bungalow to help choose which to do. Tintagel Castle is not far and a good place to visit. Lots of steps to be aware of. I was suggested to look at John Bray by a friend and I'm definitely glad I asked her. I guess I owe her a bottle of wine.

We had a lovely time during our holiday, and the house was great.
However, there were a number of relatively small things wrong that we initially ignored. Firstly, we had one set of keys for a house that sleeps 10 (there were three households in our visit, so this wasn't ideal). Secondly, the bin in the kitchen was broken. Thirdly, we couldn't open all of the external doors, so going out the back to hang washing up involved an annoying route. Fourthly, there was no welcome pack evident - so we were unsure what was required of us re bins, it wasn't as straight forward as it might've been re using the equipment, and we missed that personal touch from the owners that you would generally expect. Finally, part of the kitchen sink didn't work. Having ignored these issues, we were very surprised to hear, via John Bray, that the owners had charged us £120 for cleaning the sofas, where there were, apparently, large stains. We are absolutely certain that there were no stains on any of the pieces of furniture when we left the property - but no evidence has been provided by the owners through the John Bray portal, only their invoice. Given the issues with the property, it seems unreasonable to us to charge us without first having evidenced the damage, and proving that it occurred during our stay.

On arrival we were disappointed that the garden was littered with leaves and the outdoor furniture was not clean.
The house smelt strongly of damp as soon as we entered. There were grey mould spores on two double room walls and mould running along the ceilings and walls in the back bedroom and bathrooms and on tiles. We complained to the agents by phone on the Sunday and in person on Monday . We got no response so visited the agents again on tuesday . My husband was having breathing problems consequently and had to sleep on a mattress on the living room floor for the duration of our stay and we communicated this with the agents. It was agreed when the agents visited the property that there was a mould and damp problem . A dehumidifier was provided and the smell slowly improved during the rest of the week. We were informed that someone from customer relations would be in touch. We are still waiting their response. I have tried to ring but there are just options. The second time I rang I left my name and number and the problem. I have still heard nothing. We do not consider the matter ended and are feeling very disappointed as we have had no recompense for our inconvenience and spoilt stay.
