What our customers say about their holidays

We were extremely disappointed with this property.
The price for the week was on offer so we paid nearly half price plus additional fee for two dogs, if we'd paid the full price I would be asking for a refund. It is a spacious and light property, downstairs is comfortable and having an enclosed garden with dogs is a real bonus. However, it was not very clean, the downstairs windows were cloudy inside the double glazing and the windowsills covered in dirt. The plastic cover on the dining table was sticky and curled up at the edges. Although big enough to seat 5 or more you can't get the chairs around it as it is pushed into the corner and very close to the sofa. The cutlery is very cheap and nasty and one cupboard had a load of out of date food in it. The freezer drawers were dirty. The cupboard under the stairs was a mess. The bedrooms were all very nice, comfortable beds and nice furniture. The carpet however was a hard scratchy material and there are a number of stains on it. It was not nice to walk on with bare feet. The main bathroom was large and towels provided were lovely. There needs to be a warning about the shower, it has a very high step up into it and nothing to hold onto when getting out, this would definitely not be easy for someone with mobility issues or an elderly person, I am not surprised there are no photos of the shower as it has a lot of black mould around the door and bottom of tiles. The shower in the top bedroom is over a bath so not able to use this as an alternative. The bedroom balcony is not lovely as described, it has two dirty tatty garden chairs on it and the decking is dirty. The cottage is well positioned, near shops and a short walk to the beach. It is in a quiet area and has nice lawns to the front.

Firstly, I want to make clear we are very fond of this property and have stayed here numerous times.
It makes it all the more disappointing that we have had such a negative experience this time. We stayed here last year and reported that the bread knife was missing from the knife block - it still hasn't been replaced! it's very frustrating to return from the excellent local bakers with a freshly baked loaf and have to hack it apart with an unsuitable knife. Our main problem was with the downstairs, the armchairs are looking very grubby and worn out. Apart from that, one of them is a potential health hazard, so much so we didn't use it at all, the front legs are 'wonky' and one of them looks on the point of collapse. There is a general air of neglect otherwise, the door handle to the main bedroom comes off and did so twice, two of the loo roll holders likewise, all for the sake of a small retaining screw. The grill tray in the oven was caked in the charred remains of previous meals. I had to scrub it with a scourer myself, surely this should be clean for each new customer? We won't be returning until we are sure these issues have been addressed, the attention to detail is sadly lacking.

What a wonderful house. We all had a smashing time. The showers are lovely and powerful and the kitchen is perfect for congregating. The garden was a hit for our dogs and great it is completely secure. Recommendations – The Horseshoes in Rennington is an old fashioned pub with amazing homemade food, The Pack Horse at Ellingham does an amazing Thai night on a Monday, The Running Fox in Longhouton is brilliant for cakes and scones – What’s not to like? The Market Tavern in Alnwick was another good place for homemade food. And all of these are dog friendly! We had wild weather, got soaked a few times, had some very windy and cold evenings but have stayed nice and toasty in Hassock House. Thank you for letting us stay and for the lovely welcome hamper. We would love to return!

Lovely little place in rock, great value for money.
Would stay here again. The only thing I would say is that the place has too much stuff in it; seemed every surface had some kind of knickknack on it, there were mobiles hanging everywhere (if I ever see a string of hanging shells again Iâll scream) and things like lampshades and table lamps were just way too big. If you watch âsort your life outâ, Stacey Solomon always says clear out half your stuff; it would probably be nearer to three quarters there, and it wouldnât detract from the seaside theme. As much as anything it would probably make the place easier to clean (thatâs why I marked it down on this). It wonât stop us from staying there again, but I probably wouldnât go with young children I because I would worry about them breaking something.

The property was quite disappointing.
It looked tired and very much in need of a makeover. We had several issues during our stay, the main one being the wifi not working because a bill had not been paid. That was resolved by John Bray with a temporary router after a couple of days. The place had not been cleaned too well before we arrived, with sand on the leather settees and dust everywhere. I had to flush the en suite toilet with a bucket several times which was not ideal. Numerous light bulbs were out in the living room, kitchen and en suite. Also the guttering needed repairing in several places. Whenever it rained at night the noise was quite intrusive. We have had many great holidays in John Bray properties over the years, but this was not one of them.
