What our customers say about their holidays

What an amazing stay we had!
It was just what we needed in a location which is very special to us. The whole property was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. The view from the back veranda was perfect and waking up to the sound of waves couldnât have been a better alarm! The outdoor tap and shower were super useful for rinsing the kilo of sand we seemed to bring back with us each day. You can walk to the beach, it is beautiful and takes about 10/15 mins, but beware⦠the walk back can be tough if you are laden with shopping/beach equipment/a toddler on your shoulders!!! Highly recommend the Cracking Crab, which is on the cliff walk, for a scrummy dinner. All the foody places on the beach didnât disappoint either. Pizzas from the Galleon and lunch from Clever Trevor were our faves. A few little things gave some stress but not for long and we worked them out. The en-suite smelt like sewage on the first day and night, presuming from the septic tank and where the property had been shut up⦠opened up windows etc and it was gone. Just a note to do this when you first arrive if it is a little smelly. The smell didnât return as we left the window on latch and the room was used lots. The showers caused some stress. The water pressure in the main bathroom means the shower is pretty useless, it couldnât rinse soap off let alone get the shampoo out of my hair. The sticker says to only use eco mode so we did. We ended up all using the en-suite. The en-suite shower runs out of hot water very quickly. Maybe 10 mins max (not great with 4 sandy, salty beach goers to get clean) if you donât set the heating on pretty much constant and use the boost button as soon as the first person showers. The instructions say itâs self heating but it definitely didnât. Once we figured out the routine and Iâd changed the setting on the main heating unit we were better. Still quick showers only though. We contacted Sykes but didnât hear back until about two days later so it was a good job Iâd figured it out before then! As I said, we sussed these little things out and they didnât impact our stay once sorted! Weâd definitely go back to Shorelands

We like using Sykes cottages and plan to do many more visits.
We find the company very easy to deal with and the staff (over the phone) very professional. We did find the cottage in an âokayâ state when we arrived. And understand that it may not have been used for a week or two as there were some impressive spider webs spanning the width of the conservatory. Both my wife and I are chronic arachnophobes but I did manage to remove them (go me). Other than this minor issue we did enjoy our stay very much and think we left the place in a better place than we found it. Itâs a lovely house. Itâs near The Pityme Inn which is an okay pub. The food is good. However further up the road (45 mins walk) is The Mariners which is a fabulous pub. A chip shop and bakery are also just up the road. The cottage is a great base for your stay. Though one thing to note is the bins were collected on Thursday not Friday as the inventory states. Which is why the bins were full when we arrived and also why we left them full (caught us out too). We did message Sykes about it as we obviously want to use them again and donât want to get into trouble. On the whole donât let âthe spider webâ part of our stay put you off going. It is a stunning property with a self contained one bed house in the garden. The beds are comfy too. Over all once the eight legged horrors were removed (comes with old houses sadly) we enjoyed a very pleasant stay.

My family and I booked Palm Trees, Polzeath for Christmas 2019. I was a little apprehensive as Christmas is an important time of year - I needn’t have worried. Palm Trees was a delight. The apartment is surprisingly large and airy. The linen was fresh and crisp and the standard of cleanliness was excellent. The layout is perfect for family harmony as there are two bedroom/bathroom areas with the living area in between, offering space for people to go off and be quiet if they want to. The kitchen is very well equipped and spacious with ample side space for family catering. The second fridge and freezer in the foyer were very useful for extra storage. The living room was cosy and we made two of the puzzles during our stay, as well as dipping into the house library. The local area was breathtaking - wonderful cliff top walks, surfing and beach combing in the rock pools. The local cafes and pubs were numerous and very friendly. The beach cafe was even open on Christmas Day for bacon butties and bring your own mug hot drinks - (it was so busy they ran out of take away cups). I would recommend this apartment for its private parking, private garden and comfortable atmosphere.

The property is large enough and has some nice features.
The general cleaning was very low - lots of dust and cobwebs - especially in places you would notice. The up keep of it is terrible- there is damp coming in lounge and back bedroom There is rust in microwave general wiping down in kitchen needed and skirtings and alot of stickiness on furniture- it felt like there was no care put into the property between or monitoring of the bungalow. The beds were very uncomfortable - we had to put two blankets under sheet just to give us some relief from the mattress. The garden was very unkempt and most of it could not be used as grass had not been cut for a while - considering it allows dogs the gate was not appropriate in size and it wasn't secure. The fence and hedge runs the side of a busy in road into Rock. The slabs were not kept well and very slippy when going to the bins or outside. There was no instructions on the heating so we could not set it ourselves. We went through storm ciaran - we had to call and engineer and was without heating or hot water for overnight as the emergency number did not work. The fuse board was locked in a cupboard. We had to wait until the next day.

Wonderful cottage.
Was large enough for my family of 6(3 teenagers). Kitchen full of everything you could ask for and 2 fridges were an added bonus. The wonderful added bonus was the shower aid seat. This was because 2 weeks before our holiday my daughter had a nasty break to her arm. Knowing there was no bath in the cottage we did worry a little but upon arriving we found seat so she could shower (which was large as well) and wash her hair without getting her cast wet. The summer house was wonderful for the teenagers to hide away when they needed to. The local butchers is a must for bacon and sausage, both to die for. If you want certain bakery items then you need to rise before 8am to pickup as they sell out very fast. The only downside is not having a list of places to go to find items, Google maps really help with this (supermarkets etc). We arrived very late and all shops local were closed so supplies had to wait till morning. Basic supplies would have been nice if offered as this cottage is in the middle of nearly no--where. We all rate this cottage as fantastic. And didn't want to end our holiday!
