What our customers say about their holidays
Ashley - Verified booking
Expensive & Disappointing.
Having viewed the property on the Sykes website, what sold it to us, was the chance to sit outside in the sunshine, next to the beautiful surroundings , with family searing and the use of the hot tub(despite the additional fee charged for this). So having booked the property for a week for potentially five of us, we were so disappointed upon our arrival. The house looked lovely from the exterior. Parking was however limited. The house is ideally located for Whitby and all the local beaches and that was a great plus. The house was generally clean and tidy. However it wasnât long before we started to find little things that let it down. The toilet seat was loose which required tightening, the small towel holder was hanging on by a thread; the vacuum cleaner holder in the kitchen wasnât fixed to the wall properly. The beds I found uncomfortable, however my wife found them the opposite . The double beds are two singles pushed together which caused an uncomfortable ridge in the middle. The quilts were extremely thick and heavy, ideal for winter but not for summer. Bed linen was lovely and clean and there were sufficient towels provided. The showers worked well. The shower seal needs a good bleaching as there was green mould evident. The Wi-Fi was pretty awful . It worked okay downstairs but upstairs it was non existent, This was evident of the tvs in each bedroom. You could not get any programs, either ones that are streamed such as Netflix, Amazon or any terrestrial tv. So it was effectively a waste of time having tvs in rooms that you couldnât use. The main tv in the lounge only has streaming and catch up tv . No terrestrial tv. So unless you subscribe to streaming services you will be even more disappointed. Now we doing go there to watch tv, we wanted to sit outside. Well where do I start with the rear garden area. There was some that rattan furniture but no seat covers. I believed they had been ruined in a previous review and not replaced. So no comfortable seating to use. So the first thing we had to do, was spend time and money visiting local supermarkets etc looking for a couple of sunloungers to use during the week. The table outside is tired, needs sanding down and re varnishing. The rear, area was over grown with weeds, hanging baskets with dead plants or weeds in. There were dead leaves and a dirty floor in and around the hot tub. The hot tub stunk so much of chlorine that it made your eyes water and brought me up in a rash. Nobody attended to the hot tub during the week, unless they came during the day whilst we were out. The chlorine gradually died off to a bearable level mid week. Half the jets didnât work in the hot tub, which was annoying when you are paying extra for the facility. There wasnât a lot of privacy when using the hot tub and could easily remedied with a little bamboo screening. So overall the holiday home failed to live up to our expectations. We have used Sykes on numerous occasions and this has been by far the worst we have stayed in. We would love to return to the area but would not return here. So despite a few faults within we thought we could live with

Just had a lovely midweek break at Rose Lodge.
There are just 10 lodges on a small site just behind the Runswick Bay Hotel. They are nicely positioned so all are fairly private. There is a caravan park behind a hedge but we had no issue with noise. Most people like us had their dogs with them so there was a bit of barking when dogs heard or saw each other but it's a lovely peaceful location very close to the Cleveland Way if you like walking. The lovely little bay is 5-10 mins walk down a very steep hill. It was too steep for us to walk up (I think it would take 20 mins to walk up!) but there is a pay and display car park close to the bottom (free after 6.00pm). Rose Lodge was definitely the best lodge we have stayed in - probably helps that everything was still very new at the time of our stay but the furnishings and layout were excellent. The 4 person hot tub was lovely and in a private position. The beds were really comfortable. A useful addition would be black out blinds in the east facing main bedroom as sunrise is likely to wake you up early. The only negative we had was with the wi-fi which was really poor. Very easy to log on but the connection was continually lost. During our stay the central heating wouldn't seem to work. We followed the instructions but the heating wouldn't come on. We only needed it on one morning when there was no sun but didn't raise the issue at the time of our stay as we didn't need heating apart from that one morning. Hot water wasn't a problem as it is a combi boiler so instant water when you need it. Very useful having an ensuite and a bathroom both with showers. Highly recommend Rose Lodge and we would definitely like to return in the future.

A fabulous lodge in a beautiful spot.
After a very long journey from South Wales, arriving at the beautifully clean, well-equipped Lodge was a relief and the wonderful hot tub helped us to relax immediately and the get the holiday started!! The welcome package was a lovely surprise too and much appreciated. The high quality smart TV and hot tub were lovely little luxuries whilst all the necessities were met with clean rooms, clean bedding and towels, iron and board, plenty of storage and a well- equipped kitchen. We stayed for a week and the owners were extremely responsive. They could be seen on site and any questions were answered very quickly via phone and/or text - very helpful and friendly. Runswick Bay is a beautiful spot. The beautiful beach was only a short walk away but for those with any accessibility should be aware that the hill to the beach is extremely steep. But there is a car park at the bottom of the hill if you need it. The beach and village is well worth a visit and the climb! The lodge is very well placed for trips to Staithes, Sandsend, Whitby and further afield. The local buses travelled to these places regularly and the bus stops are right outside the site. If you enjoy walking, the coastal path is pretty much on your doorstep and well worth a trek for beautiful views. We day tripped to York by train which I would highly recommend, rather than driving! We drove to Yarm Station, about 30 mins away, and had an easy train ride into the centre of York. We had a wonderful week and I would highly recommend Honeysuckle Lodge at Paddock Lodges.

The lodge was very nice and comfortable.
We was pleasantly suprised at how well equipped it was. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed. The beds were very comfy. On arrival the place looked clean and tidy however after being there for 5 mins my socks got covered in dog fur from a previous tenant. Luckily there was a hoover in the cupboard so I could hoover up all the dog hair. The fridge and freezer had also been left off so they were warm and a bit stinky when we arrived. The hot tub was perfect for us as a family of 3. But you would struggle to fit 4 adults in comfortably. We also wasn't too keen on the location of marigold lodge on the park itself as the hot tub sat right on the drive way. Which was fine when sitting in as the fence created privacy But when we got out of the hot tub we were on display to anyone passing by. There is parking for 1 car and they are small spaces. When we arrived a neighbour had also parked right next to our lodge as they had 2 cars. They wanted to leave it there but we requested they move it as it was right by our hot tub area. But there is limited additional parking. All of these issues were minor to us though and didn't spoil our time away. The location was perfect for us to explore the coast. Whitby, Robin hoods bay, falling Foss and Scarborough. It was very quiet there too which we liked and we visited the pub round the corner which served delicious food. We would return again in the future but maybe book a different lodge which has more privacy.
