What our customers say about their holidays

We've just spent a week at the beautiful Winster Cottage and can honestly say it is fabulous.
The cottage is spacious with lovely views and in a quiet location and Clare and Jason have obviously put a lot of thought and effort into not only the renovation, which is beautiful but also with regards to furnishings and fitting out etc. Everything has been thought of. The well equipped kitchen has everything you could possibly need from cutlery, crockery, plenty of pots, pans, a large assortment of baking tins, glasses etc - we didn't find anything 'missing' so to speak. We found condiments, herbs, cooking oil, various teas, coffee and sugar etc in cupboards and fresh milk in the fridge. I mention these as we weren't aware of them and took a few items with us that weren't needed. The beautiful conservatory was our absolute favourite place to have breakfast every morning and chill every evening with a glass of wine. It's so lovely and comfortable with a beautiful view. We were lucky enough to have good weather which made the views front and rear stunning. The cottage is lovely and warm which meant my husband was disappointed that we didn't need the wood burner. I will mention the stairs in the cottage as a couple of people have mentioned them. There is quite a sharp bend in the stairs, however I managed without a problem and I have arthritis and had a hip replacement 6 months ago. Similarly there has been mention of steep steps down to the front door. There are 4 steps down and again I managed with no problem. Also you can go down the drive to access the side gate. To sum it up this is an absolutely beautiful cottage in a quiet location and in an ideal area for visiting the lakes. Don't hesitate if you're thinking of booking. We wouldn't stay anywhere else if visiting the area again. Thank you Clare and Jason.

An interestingly designed and well equipped cottage that suited us perfectly for a week in the Lakes over Easter.
Ideally suited to one or two couples in double bedrooms, a fifth person can sleep in an additional single bedroom, although this is windowless and lacks storage space. The staircase is curved and steep, so you have to take care when moving heavy baggage, but is otherwise fine unless you have significant mobility issues. The bathroom is very nicely designed with a combined bath and shower unit. The ground floor is spacious with an excellent kitchen area and all the utensils that you are likely to need. A new, large and very lovely conservatory complete with heating and air conditioning is a super place to be in regardless of the weather; very spacious, it has plenty of seating space and a good dining table. For entertainment, there is a profusion of Smart TVs (but no DVD player). Although located in a fairly remote spot, we walked to Grange over Sands on a couple of occasions, which was a level stroll taking about 30 minutes, while it only takes a few minutes to drive back to the A590. We had a minor maintenance issue when we arrived (a fire alarm back-up battery was beeping) and needed a ladder to reach the alarm. This problem was sorted out very quickly and efficiently by the owners. We stay at a good many holiday homes and recommend Winster Cottage as being well above average.

We had a fabulous stay in this superb cottage which has been renovated to very high standards.
No expense has been spared. The owners have left a very interesting photo album of the before/work in progress/after pictures which shows all of the work that has gone into this project. The cottage is in a lovely peaceful location but very close to Grange Over Sands. We found it was the perfect base to visit the Lake District and surrounding areas. The cottage was very clean and well equipped with a very stylish kitchen with a superb, easy to use cooking range. However, we found a couple of things were missing - a tea pot and Champagne/Prosecco glasses. We guessed they had been broken and not replaced as there was only one left. We also found that there was no comfortable provision for eating meals. The breakfast bar is fine for breakfast but only space to comfortably seat 3 people. It is not ideal for dinner in the evening. The owners have provided a fold up garden type table and chairs which is stored away but it is not really adequate or comfortable for 4 people. On the other hand, the outdoor patio furniture is plentiful and comfortable. Extreme caution is needed using the stairs and steps leading down to the entrance of the cottage. Overall, it was a pleasure to stay in this accomodation.

Weâve just returned from a weeks stay at Winster Cottage as a family of four with two very young children.
Absolutely beautiful location, very peaceful and the views out of every window are absolutely stunning! Our three year old enjoyed watching sheep, cows, swans, geese and even a heron! The house has been renovated to a beautiful standard and Iâve never stayed anywhere cleaner! It also smelt incredible! Lovely powerful shower in a very clean, bright bathroom. Everything is good quality ie linen and towels etc. So much character has been added during fhe renovation (thereâs a photo album in the kitchen if youâre nosey like me!) The conservatory is such a fantastic place to sit and has air con to keep it a comfortable temp. The utility room was an added bonus, equipped with a washer and separate tumble dryer. Never thought Iâd be doing washing on holiday but with a 3 year old and a baby it was inevitable! The cupboards are stocked like nowhere Iâve ever stayed, with washing detergent, loads of essential like condiments and array of full size packs of tea and coffee. The garden is large, flat and fantastic for children to run off some steam. A man came to cut the grass whilst we were there and was so friendly. Thanks so much for some lovely family memories!

It is obvious that the cottage owners are new to the holiday letting experience.
We all really liked the property but feel we need to make you aware of a few issues the we feel are health and safety issues. Firstly the stars in the property are very narrow and steep. There is no real hand rail except a rope leading up. This rail was broken by my 12 year old son when he help on to stop himself from falling. When we contacted the owner she was very rude and accused us of deliberately damaging her property. Pictures have been sent to you. These stairs need to have something done to make them safer. Someone will seriously hurt themselves. The second issue is that the third bedroom is really only a cupboard with a bed. There are no windows and no ventilation. My son was so hot and stuffy that he had to sleep on the sofa downstairs. I am sure this is also a health and safety issue and am sure would contravene building regulations. We are very glad we are not staying there this week as that room would be un-usable. I feel the owner need to understand the issues and address them. These are lawsuits waiting to happen!
