What our customers say about their holidays
Mrs Willis - Verified booking
Anniversary Cottage is in a fantastic location. We didn’t use our car once during our stay as there were so many fantastic walks straight from the property. One day we walked over to Grasmere and then got the open top bus into Ambleside (come approx every 20 mins) and then another bus back to Elterwater (they’re roughly every 2 hours). We were walking distance of at least three pubs/restaurants with The Britannia being about a 2 minute walk. We used the Langdale CoOp at Chapel Style for all our groceries and that’s a 10/15 minute walk along the riverside (half a mile there). The house itself was super comfortable (two couples & a single adult) with glorious views. We cooked in 5 of the 7 nights and the kitchen had everything that we needed. We were lucky enough to be able to sit outside most evenings too. The beds were large & comfortable with cotton bedding and big, decent towels. Both bathrooms were decent too with great water pressure to the showers. The only area for comment was the kitchen which could do with some attention in places. For instance, the washing machine was grimy on the rubber inside the door, the cooker extractor needed new grease filters and a bit of a clean, some of the cupboard fronts needed a good wipe & there were a few cobwebs. Nothing earth shattering but just made the difference between a good and fantastic review which is a shame as everywhere else was absolutely lovely. The new carpet throughout is just gorgeous and we all just loved the decor in the bedrooms and sitting room. We would definitely recommend this super comfortable property as an ideal base for walking in the Langdales.

We had a fabulous week at Anniversary Cottage. The bungalow is one of the best equipped places we have ever been to. Loved the slow cooker. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking at home which we tend to do. Comfortable lounge with inviting log burner. It would have been a lovely gesture to Include a baskets of logs, kindling and firelighters to start us off. Bedrooms were spacious with lots of storage and beds were comfortable. A minor gripe was the water and central heating system as we ran out of water for evening showers if any were taken in the morning and had to remember to boost the immersion heater in the afternoon for enough hot water. We also went in a really cold spell and couldn’t adjust the heating so had to phone through for support as the house became cold very quickly after it went off. It is set to come on 3 times a day which was ok once outside temps increased but flexibility to change without phoning for help would have been helpful. Space for several cars to park off road which is an advantage for this village as it does get busy. Fabulous location for walks from the doorstep straight into the Great Langdale valley with walks to Skelwith Bridge and Loughrigg tarn close by. 2 mins walk from fab pub - Britannia Inn which is cosy, welcoming and serves great food. Overall would definitely recommend return.

Firstly, Iâd like to say that we had a great stay and do plan to come back.
However there were a number of things that could do with improving. The tv in the downstairs bedroom didnât work. The automatic lights in the shared downstairs bathrooms turn off when youâre in the shower, and sometimes didnât turn on at all. The heating knob in the downstairs shower was broken. The fire in the sitting room was broken. The dishwasher was full of dirty dishes on arrival. In general the level of cleanliness could have been a lot better. There were no mattress protectors on the beds, nor pillow protectors on most of the pillows. The sofa is a bit tired and stained. The location of the property and the size of the property was perfect for what we needed, and we did have an enjoyable stay but given that some of my points have been made by other reviewers it does make me wonder if things will have been improved upon when we return next year. Fingers crossed!

The setting of the property is super with sheep and the river just over the lane and the position, an enjoyable 25 minute stroll into Ambleside, was a plus.
The property is very spacious and worked well for a group with a spot to sit and enjoy the view from the kitchen diner in addition to the large living room. As mentioned in previous reviews, the property could do with updating. For example the little balcony, which should be a feature of the property, was uninviting with peeling paintwork, leaves blown in and scattered furniture with a green tinge to it. Nothing that a lick of paint, a good clean and some âdressingâ couldnât fix. In itâs prime this was a beautiful, spacious Lakeland house thoughtfully presented, decorated with farrow & ball throughout. The biggest issue - also mentioned in other reviews - was the boiler. The noise, intermittently through the night, was intolerable from the main upstairs bedroom. We will not return to this property.

Lovely cottage which provided plenty of space for 4 adults and a young child.
The layout of the cottage offered plenty of privacy to couples and numerous bathrooms. The setting of the house is ideal, being walking distance to grasmere, several pubs/restaurants and the public bus all while being surrounded by nature. The peaceful setting made for a good nights sleep. There is also the added bonus of the health club access which we enjoyed. Would definitely return to Fairfield Cottage. To improve the kitchen facilities further additional larger glasses, wine glasses, baking trays and a few more sharp knives could be supplied. Otherwise itâs a well equipped kitchen. A few more plug adapters could help, especially in bedrooms and lounge. Might also benefit from a regular deep clean in those hard to reach areas eg behind beds and cabinets.
