What our customers say about their holidays

Spent a week at Tillymint cottage during august.
We are a family of four and the cottage had plenty of room. It was clean and tidy on arrival and well stocked. We liked the fact there was things like drying maiden, hoover and cleaning products available. The site itself was amazing, kept clean and tidy and lovely and quiet. The playground, crazy golf and golf frisbee weâre fab! The pool was well maintained, and our kids loved they could go every day and that towels were available, which was really helpful. Staff were lovely and polite, always said hello and very attentive in the restaurant on site. Food was lovely albeit a tad pricey, however the activities that ran that week were definitely a nice added bonus. The area is beautiful and the closest big supermarket was about a 10/15 min run, so not bad at all. Lots to do in the Lake District, a week just isnât enough and the odd day we decided to stay on site there was plenty to keep us occupied and the cottage had a really good selection of books and dvds. We did however have two minor points with the cottage; the plywood decking area upstairs did look a bit a dodgy but we know the cottage has not long been taken over, so Iâm sure that will be dealt with, and the the key safeâ¦was a bit tricky opening it and just wouldnât open when it came to returning the key which made us panic and flap. Overall, we would definitely recommend Tillymint cottage to anyone and we will be booking again for next year as we enjoyed it that much

House badly needs maintenance and thorough deep clean.
The floorboards are completely gone to deep holes on the main corridor. Dangerous. Mould on walls, especially in the bedroom with ensuite. Plumbing sounds like it could explode. Bedding stained (duvets and pillows). Lots of random old stuff left in kitchen area. And shed. Upstairs double bed so creaky could break at any point. (And it was only a young slim girl sleeping in it) Garden has many loose paving stones on steep steps and unguarded steep stone drops. Very dangerous if older or children. Electric garden gate not working at all despite your arrival instructions. Outside furniture horrendous and bbq had been used as a fire pit with large half burned logs still there. Most of the saucepans and frying pans do not work on the induction hob. House information pack pointless, as out of date. No info re recycling. Torches provided but not working. Sign in lounge said âlogs and kindlingâ but none there. No welcome pack at all, even toilet rolls. I am appalled Sykes gives this a 4 tick rating. However⦠the house is in an amazing location with superb walking, pubs, shops etc all close from the front door. And the views from the house are magnificent. And a red squirrel in the garden

We stayed here in August and because of the Covid situation we were expecting a superior standard of cleanliness.
Unfortunately that was not to be. The grey furry venetian blind in the kitchen was actually white underneath the grime. The cutlery tray in the kitchen drawer had an accumulation of dirt in the corners. The fridge was stained inside. The lovely fireplace in the bedroom contained someone else's rubbish. Other issues we found were the kitchen window wouldn't open. The toilet seat was loose. The shower room door wouldn't lock because the lock had been fitted incorrectly. The garden although enclosed was unsuitable for a dog. There was a rockery at the end and a dog could easily get on the wall from that. On a positive note the property was well equipped, the bed linen and towels were good and the location was ideal. There was a second room upstairs which we found very useful for storage and drying clothes. These issues and others have been raised with Sykes Cottages and the owners so hopefully they will be rectified. Having recently looked at the description of the property on the website I can see that it has now been updated by Sykes.

A bit disappointed with location and description a bit misleading.
The courtyard at the back of the cottage is not suitable for pets as it is completely open and not very suitable for sitting outside unless u want to look at next doors car and an old shed? The pictures lead you to believe that you can enjoy a cup of tea whilst admiring the view but that is far from accurate. You need a car to get around as Shap is quite remote and nothing to do during the day, although there were a couple of public footpaths so some nice walks but not enough to keep you busy for a week so had to drive in to Kendal most days and Windermere which is definitely worth the drive and a must as is Bowness and Ullswater (Poolley Bridge). Cottage itself was well catered for but really nothing extraordinary and if Iâm totally honest Iâve had much better for less money so I feel it was quite expensive for what you got. But we did have a pleasant stay just donât get your hopes up because I was expecting a view of the scenery but you canât see any of the views at all from the cottage.

The accommodation was spacious and kitchen equipment was surplus to our needs.
Unfortunately the main double bed mattress was damaged and my husband ended up sleeping in another bed to help his painful back after the first night. Also, a very strong lingering food smell was present in the upstairs areas and this ruined our time in the property. Despite good contact from the cleaners, a solution was not possible during our stay. The facilities on the site were as advertised, however we received no arrival information about where to find the property in a huge resort. The provided post code led us into a private farmers yard and we were not aware that swimming had to be prebooked or where to collect equipment to play mini golf etc. The staff on site were pleasant and helpful. Sadly our little family didnât enjoy the holiday as weâd hoped and felt disappointed including mostly broken and unusable items in the games room. We do not think the property should be listed until the food smells have been removed especially from carpets.
