What our customers say about their holidays

The cottage was well appointed and of course in a fantastic location with views and access to spectacular scenery.
Overall we had an enjoyable stay but there were niggles and annoyances; we would return again but better prepared through these experiences. The oil-heating system I suspect was a bit past its prime and not fit for purpose; the three ancient-looking radiators in the main room barely took the edge of the cold; we fared better in the bedroom, much more cosy, but only because the owners had thoughtfully supplied electric blankets plus there was double-glazing fitted. On this basis it felt more a spring, summer and autumn property. There was an large open fire in the living room and again the owners had thoughtfully supplied a large basket of wood, firelighters and newspaper - but no matches. I didn't fancy a pitch-black drive along miles of chicaning single track to Pooley Bridge and had to wait for the day after. It would've been useful for the literature to suggest we bring a box or be told this when we contacted the owner/agent about when we expected to arrive. An axe would also have been useful as the wood - and most wood then bought from surrounding villages and B&M and B&Q in Penrith - were Sequoia chunks. I ended up like Mr. Universe bellowing and wafting the grate for hours getting the fire bed hot enough and able to then devour the large chunks on its own. Once the fire was going it was great in the living room but an axe would have been useful to chop these into more manageable pieces initially. We had a RCD blow taking out random, unrelated appliances like the kettle, fridge, Sky Box, TV and WiFi. The info folder made no mention of the fuse box's location; we could not contact the owners as there was no 'phone signal and of course no WiFi. After twenty minutes of 'Hunt the Fuse Box' I eventually located it behind a door with no handle at the back of the living room managing to get a finger in and prise it open. I found in fact no RCD had blown but got power back by pushing the test switch up (...?!). There were one or two other things but it'll just sound like moaning; it was just little, overlooked things that irritated but finally didn't dampen a good stay.

This is a great little modern apartment right in the centre of Bowness but yet still in a quiet cul de sac.
It has a smart tv in both the lounge & bedroom with a Netflix account included, and every mod con including air con fans (which were greatly appreciated in the wonderful weather we had all week). For a curly haired person like myself the hairdryer with diffuser is also a great addition. You are provided with little packs with tea, coffee, sugar, milk & biscuits and there is also hand wash, cloths & washing up liquid. No shampoo etc though so you need to bring your own. There is a Co-op 2 mins walk away for anything you need. Everything is literally on your door step. Parking is slightly up the hill so you need to offload outside the flat then move the car, which is no problem. Negatives: a better variety of glasses would be good eg wine, pint glasses. The shower is a law unto itself! It seems to turn to scalding at a seconds notice. Setting it to the correct temperature was a bit of a challenge. The socket where the washing machine & microwave is situated does not appear to work. Luckily we had an extension cable with us. There are no instructions for anything in the apartment & if youâre not a tech genius like my husband you might struggle. There was also nothing to tell us what to do with our rubbish. The mattress on the bed is unfortunately pretty hard. We like a reasonably hard mattress but we actually took the duvet cover off and used the duvet as a mattress cover to make it more comfortable. Overall would highly recommend this apartment and we will certainly return!

Beck Cottage has a lovely layout, with a cosy atmosphere which was enhanced by a charming wood burning stove, perfect for relaxing evenings, which we booked as a last minute little pick me up after illness before Christmas.
However the stay was unfortunately overshadowed by a few issues. The cottage on closer inspection wasnât very clean. There was dusty surfaces, a large amount of cobwebs, toothpaste on a tap and mould under the bath taps. Later during the stay we found a finger nail and food down the back of the sofa. Additionally the sink had broken plumbing which meant that after a couple of water leaks we couldnât really use for it for five out the the seven days. Whilst we appreciate that it was over the New Year period you would have thought that an emergency plumber could have been utilised. Although permission was given to the hosts to enter the property to check the plumbing on one day, we were concerned that the day after someone had entered the property and turned some lights out that we purposely left on to help us navigate up the path in the dark when we returned from a day out, which was unsettling and intrusive. Whilst Beck Cottage is in a great position and had the potential for a really great stay, the lack of maintenance, cleanliness and lack of privacy detracted from the overall experience.

Nice cottage in a good location.
Village pub and micro brewery 5 minutes walk from the cottage was worth the visit, good ale and lovely friendly owners. I have given a low score for cleaning the bathroom tiles are in need of a deep clean and I am surprised nobody has commented on it because it must of been some time since the tiles were cleaned there was a heavy build up of black mould on the tiles above the bath all along the bath edge and at the bottom of the shower screen. Only 1 bath towel and 1 had towel for two people. The garden rockery is full of weeds and needs attention. The outlook to the side of the cottage was not very pleasant it faces on to the owners garage workshop doors not closed so was not a very pleasant view.

We had a very relaxed and unwinding week in Townhead cottage and were pleasantly surprised by the lovely cottage!
Some positive feedback: Very difficult to carry the luggage over the steep and slippery steps round the back to the door. We put most of it t.hrough the window in the front?! There is a sort of driveway in the back but you would have to drive over the garden/grass from the neighbors, So we didn't. Wifi wasn't working the second day, but fixed immediately after reporting! The bed was extremely low 30 cm?! Would be a reason for me, as a 59 years old man with diabitis, not to return! The bathroom is designed to get wet, quite common in the UK. A shower curtain and a hook to hang the shower head on would be very useful.
